Hello,
I feel like the internet really melted my brain down this week.
On Tuesday night I went to the premiere of the music video for Lucy Dacus’ 2017 track song “Night Shift,” which conveniently took place a few blocks from my apartment. It was directed by Jane Schoenbrun and was followed by a screening of her 2021 film We’re All Going to the World's Fair, which I had been meaning to watch for a long time. Here’s a great interview with Schoenbrun if you are curious.
I returned home to a TikTok feed filled entirely with South Park split-screens and Hailey Bieber/Selena Gomez conspiracy theories. I just did a quick search on Twitter and apparently I’m not the only one suddenly getting spammed with South Park content:

The Bieber/Gomez videos are considerably more troubling and Delia Cai wrote a great piece in Vanity Fair about how this is yet another example of two female celebrities being pitted against each other in the court of public opinion.
I spent a lot of time this week learning about the efforts to prevent the construction of “Cop City,” a $90 million military-style training compound that would destroy parts of Atlanta’s Weelaunee Forest.

The state is aggressively punishing protestors (even more people have been charged with domestic terrorism since this story)
Until next week.
